COVID-19 reshaped the world and the concept of “normalcy” when the pandemic forced shutdowns of businesses nationwide. Now, with states easing restrictions and businesses reopening, it is time for small businesses and churches alike to shift their focus to re-opening and post-COVID business practices. Business owners across the State of California should start contemplating their approach to welcome back their employees into the workplaces.
California is currently in Stage 2 of a Stage 4 process. But, many Californians anticipate quickly heading into Stage 3 which means small businesses, churches and employees will begin heading back into the workplace. Employers and businesses should not delay their preparations for reopening as the scarcity of valuable resources to safeguard the workplace requires employers to begin planning ahead and obtaining protective materials as soon as practicable. Additionally employers should contemplate implementation of additional employee policies such as self-reporting illness, sanitation policies, break room congregation, physical distancing, rights to privacy, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), workplace screening, remote work, and other vital policies which will facilitate safe and efficient opening. To assist small businesses with this new transition, Tyler Law is releasing a “Return to Work” toolkit to help small businesses, churches, employees and employers navigate through the reopening process. The toolkit is designed to modify internal policies in this “new normal” and focuses on sanitation, safety, and workplace structure as primary goals for reopening.
